The Ala Wai Watershed Project is a multi-purpose project being undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), and the City & County of Honolulu.
The goal of the project is to improve the overall quality of the Ala Wai watershed, from the crest of the Ko`olau Mountains to the nearshore waters, while minimizing the risk of flood damages to the public. Specific project objectives include:
The project is currently in the Feasibility Phase, which includes the following activities: formulation of alternative plans, evaluation of each plan (including preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)), and selection of the recommended plan.
